Claude Code is Antropic’s agentic coding tool that enables developers to use Claude to support software engineering tasks, writing and debugging code, understanding the whole codebase, and running commands and tests. Claude Code 2.1.0 was released on January 7th. It introduces significant updates. Claude Code Security was released on February 20th. It reviews codebases to identify vulnerabilities and enhance cybersecurity. These releases might explain the recent signups.

Anthropic had a contract with the Defense Department that was worth up to $200 million in 2025. On February 27, President Trump ordered federal agencies and military contractors to cease all business with Anthropic after the company refused to allow unrestricted Pentagon use of its AI. This fallout has massively boosted consumer sign-ups, and Claude became #1 app on the app store on February 28th. That contributes to the stress test of mobile platform bandwidth today.
While AI is a hot topic for leaders to pay attention to, the growing pains and the balance between standing for AI ethics and business profit add another layer of pressure beyond the technical competition. Thinking strategically and acting agile seem to be critical leadership skills in the AI era.
