I am reading “Good to Great” by Jim Collins and really liked the Three Circles of the Hedgehog Concept.
Three circles are – what you are deeply passionate about; what you can be the best in the world at and what drives your economic engine.
To apply to personal work… if you have genetic talent, and paid well for what you do and you are doing work you are passionate about and absolutely love to do, you got a Hedgehog Concept for yourself and that concept will guide your life choices.
The good-to-great companies translate their understanding of the three circles into a simple, crystalline concept that guided all their efforts. The good-to-great companies understood that doing what you are good at will only makes you good; focusing solely what you can potentially do better than any other organization is the only path to greatness.
