Collective Consciousness

It’s interesting to watch Family Constellations in action in Another Self on Netflix. It’s a therapy modality that explores how family systems, psychology, and hidden dynamics shape relationships in a knowing field with proxies.

Bert Hellinger developed the modality and believed that when someone stepped into a proxy role, they were temporarily “plugged into” the knowing field and received its information through their body and emotions. Therefore, proxies work through the field’s collective consciousness.

This idea of plugging into the field makes me think of organizational culture. I remember how the uncertainty around the AT&T and Cingular merger affected all of us at AT&T Wireless for months. That’s a common theme in M&A. An impactful M&A must consider how energy flows shape trust and culture integration to align shareholders.

Dr. Dan Siegel’s perspective of the “mind” – an emergent property of energy flow, where there are four facets: information processing, consciousness, subjective experience, and self-organization. “System of mind” – how energy and information flow within us – within the body – and between us – between our bodily selves and the larger world.

Here is my thought  – We are all plugged into various fields to experience collective consciousness in organizations, groups, or systems. Would we act more intentionally when considering how our own energy contributes to the larger world?
