A Glimpse of My Conversation With My Client:
Conversation:
I – What MBA class do you enjoy the most?
C – Leadership and Communication styles
I – Share with me about your learning
C – I want to practice communicating concisely
I – Say more about it
C – I want to be intentional about my eye contact and concise content delivery
I – Got it. Let’s give it a try. Tell me about your Leadership style
C – ……
I – It’s concise; what is the hiccup about at the end?
C – Oh.. when I noticed I was not making eye contact. I think I need confidence and practice.
As a professional coach,
I focus on what the client is and is not saying to fully understand what is being communicated in the context of the client systems and to support the client’s self-expression. (1)
I facilitate client insight and learning using tools and techniques such as powerful questioning, silence, metaphor, or analogy. (2)
In order to accomplish the above two, I am fully conscious and present with the client, employing a style that is open, flexible, grounded, and confident (3).
These coaching skills you can apply to your teams as a leader or your teens as a parent for effective communication. It takes confidence, practice, and tons of personal development work to master these skills.
